The candidate MUST have prior experience serving as a Town Clerk and a proven record of managing municipal operations with accuracy, professionalism, and discretion. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with the public, elected officials, and state agencies.
Responsibilities include:
Maintaining official town records and vital statistics
Administering elections and voter registration
Issuing licenses, permits, and certificates
Overseeing the recording of Select Board meeting minutes
Managing various state and municipal reporting requirements.
BMV registration License/Certification for Regular and Trucks.
Qualifications:
Prior experience as a Town Clerk (required), still in good standing.
Knowledge of Maine municipal procedures, election laws, and recordkeeping standards
Proficiency with TRIO SQL and WEB.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Position: Animal Control Officer (ACO)
Hours: Per-Diem
Pay: DOE
Schedule: Varies weekly based on reports/call volume. Intermittent response for nights, weekends, and holidays
About the Role
The Animal Control Officer enforces state and municipal animal welfare laws; responds to complaints; investigates bites, cruelty/neglect, and nuisance cases; captures and transports domestic animals; coordinates with shelters, veterinarians, and law enforcement; maintains accurate records and reports; and provides public education on responsible pet ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to calls for service, including stray, injured, dangerous, and nuisance animals.
Enforce applicable Maine statutes and local ordinances; issue warnings/citations as needed.
Investigate animal bites, quarantines, cruelty/neglect, and rabies exposure incidents.
Safely capture, handle, and transport animals; arrange impoundment as required.
Maintain logs, case files, evidence, and court-ready documentation.
Appear in court or at hearings when necessary.
Coordinate with the [County Sheriff’s Office], shelters, veterinarians, and regional partners.
Maintain ACO equipment and vehicle; ensure supplies/readiness.
Provide outreach and education to residents.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong communication, de-escalation, and customer-service skills.
Ability to lift/move 50+ lbs, work outdoors in all weather, and handle stressful situations.
Proficiency with basic reporting and email software.
Preferred (or Required within X Months)
Current Maine Animal Control Officer certification in good standing.
Prior animal handling, shelter, veterinary, law-enforcement, EMS, or public safety experience.
Rabies vaccination series (pre-exposure) experience as needed.
Knowledge of safe capture/containment methods and evidence handling.
Equipment & Conditions
This role involves frequent driving, exposure to animals and zoonotic diseases, and work in varied environments (residences, roadways, fields/woodlands). Mileage is reimbursed.
